Hi

I'm thinking about going to Dubai in the end of November. When I have looked at hotels in the past I have gotten the impression that you can get a pretty nice hotel room for 500 to 800 AED. But when I checked the prices at e.g. Traders and Dusit Thani in the end of November the prices started at 1000 AED and 1800 AED. Is there something specific going on in Dubai at this time? Or do hotel prices go up in general over the winter as this is a better time to travel to Dubai?

My guess is the same as yours. It is the start of the high season. I don't think very many members have been to Dubai. I know some of our Australian members have stopped there in transit to Europe.

You might want to check over a Trip Advisor. It looks like they have several regular Dubai travelers. You can also find some great information on what to do such as this post.

Hi Gard,

this isn't really related to your hotel question, but I have chronic pain and have had to research each country I travel to, to determine if I can bring in my pain meds. Entering Dubai will get me arrested. In fact, if I was on cruise ship that ported there and the meds are in my system, but left on the cruise ship, I could still be arrested. Don't know if this is relevant to you or your travel partner but thought I would mention it.

Hi Gard. We sometimes use Dubai as a stopover when travelling from Australia to Europe. However it is not the place I would go for a holiday unless I had a lot of surplus dollars. It is expensive. The city is reasonably new so there is no history there. There is a lot of wealth so the large hotels along the beach area may well cost from US$1500 per night. A medium hotel in the city area about US$150 per night. November is into the cooler period so yes prices would increase.

There is an enormous amount of development going on which attracts workers as pay is high but we found that goods and services in our home shopping centres and supermarkets were generally cheaper. The UAE provides very attractive living conditions for UAE citizens which I guess is offset by the tourists.

Having said that you could easily spend about 5 days there for a totally different experience to Norway. Have a good look at the dubai tourist website and also reports on virtual tourist.

Hi

Thanks for the feedback. Nikki and I went to Dubai a few years back (see the trip report on http://gardkarlsen.com/dubai.htm ) and since then I know they have built quite a lot so it would be fun to go back there to check out the difference. But I would like to get a better deal on a hotel :-) I have sent e-mails to a couple of hotels now and it seems like November is a very busy month in Daubi.
