My husband and I decided that South America is our next destination. He has always dreamed of seeing Macchu Picchu. I think the Galapagos Islands would be nice. We are thinking approximately two weeks would do it.

Can anyone give us any do's and do not's, must's and must not's? Best time of year to go, etc etc.

All info is greatly appeciated.

For most people the Galapogos are a week's adventure, leaving you only one week to get from Quito to Cuzco and then to Macchu Picchu. That will be a very hectic week of flying from Quito to Lima to Cuzco, then getting used to the altitude, and then having only a couple days to get to MP and back to Cuzco and then back to wherever you flight home is from.

So I would recommend three weeks. Don't do MP in the October-March months because it will rain on you most likely. July and August are the busiest months there as well.

Hi Janel--suggest you check out my website where you will find a lot of good information on both MP and the Galapagos--along with some pretty good pictures. It will give you a good starting point for deciding what you would like to do as it covers those areas pretty well--along with the Rain Forest and some other stuff. Just click on link in my signature and go to Peru and Ecuador. Hope this helps you.The feedback is that many people have found it useful when planning similar trips. Have fun planning! Big Grin

We did a Galapagos cruise (7 days) in February 2004; I'd be glad to try to answer any questions you might have.

Janel,

We (my friend and I) are looking for at least 2 more companions to go with us to visit Galapagos by sea kayaking. If we find the companions then we plan to be there in mid September. Please feel free to contact me at polanski@verizonmail.com, and I'll be happy to divulge more info.
