I am going to the Philippines in November. I would appreciate any and all information. One area of concern is the hiring of a driver. I have heard that this is what a person should do in that area but I have no experience with this. How does it work? I will be in Manila, Tagatay, Boracay and Bohol.

Wish I can help but it has been ten years since I was in the Philippines. We have relatives there who took us around.

I also bought a couple of guidebooks and made some of our sidetrips based on the information given.

Good luck.

Like just travel, I had a relative who loaned me their spare car and driver when I was in Cebu and Manila some four years ago. The driver took us to Tagaytay and that was a bit of a drive.

I would think that you would be able go a local travel agent or even a travel agent here and book a tour from Manila to Tagaytay if you are doing this as a day trip.

Boracay is a small island and all you will need is probably a cab and a motor boat/ ferry to the island. You most likely will stay at a resort / hotel and stay there... small explorations are probably locally available too.

Bohol is another small island. There are also tour buses that will take you on the island tour. If you decide to stay at one of the resorts there are "Jeepneys" all over that will take you from the capital city of Tagbilaran to the resort town. I stayed at Panglao Resort and did this. Very doable with public transportation. Checkout the jeepneys in any town or city that you visit. They are a kick to experience! Big Grin

Have fun! The islands are very welcoming and fun to visit.

If you're staying at a hotel, check w/ them. They have drivers and cars/vans that are available for hire. We stayed at Parque Espana in Alabang and they have their own drivers. We hire them for a day trip to Tagaytay.

For Boracay, no need for a driver. There are cabs and you can take a "tricycle" Smile And if you're staying at by White Beach (Boat station 1 and station 2), you are right there in the middle. The restaurants, shops and bars are a nice all a nice walk along the beach. So far, we've only stayed at Waling Waling and Pearl of the Pacific. They are right next door to each other. We like both of them.

Wish I'm going home again. Enjoy your trip.
