In Febriary 2007 I am planning atrip to Argentina, starting in BA. My main second destination will be Salta and its surroundings and I plan to hire a car for a couple of weeks in Salta to travel. Can anybody suggest the best method of travelling from BA to Salta?
some ideas to see in Salta Salta is the most beautiful provincial capital in Argentina - Quebrada de Humahuaca, UNESCO historical monument a must see - Tilcara, folklore and its ruins - Yavi and its church cover in gold and its mountain of seven colors - La salina grande, lost in the high plateaus - San Antonio de Los Cobres, mining town and its train in the clouds - La cuesta del obispo, and its cactus in the millions! - La Poma and its volcano - El Paso del Acay at 4900 meters high - Cafayate and its wines;;;;uhhh!!! - The ruins of Quilmes and its tragic past
more info here http://www.turismosalta.gov.ar/ it can be in English too and you will find your info there. I went in 1994 so do not think my info is currentn the site should be a help. enjoy it ,its beautiful country.
I am envious. The driving around Salta is incredible. I took a bus from Salta to BsAs, it took about 20 hours. Unless you enjoy such tedium, I highly recommend flying. It's a cheap flight if I remember right, not much more than the bus.
One thing to keep in mind, Salta will be HOT in February.
