Well there are now 2 airports in Bangkok so be careful about connections. All international flights arrive and depart from Suvarnabhumi (IATA designator BKK). There are a few domestic flights here also mostly to popular tourist destinations (mostly Phuket or Chiang Mai). If you're going elsewhere you need to transfer to Don Muang (IATA designator DMK). Thai Air claims there is a shuttle that allows a transfer time (whatever that means) of 3.5 hours. Here is an excerpt from a Thai Air e-mail:
quote:
Details are still being advised but we understand there will be a shuttle bus between the 2 airports. The connecting time is 3hrs 30mins for passengers arriving and departing at different airports.
I can only advise visitors to check your tickets to see the airport designator and, if you need to use Don Muang to connect, check the times. This will be a nightmare for those like me who travel to non tourist destinations like Udorn, Khon Kaen, Trang. No doubt about it.

The whole thing is a nightmare! I've been following this since before I went to Cambodia via Bangkok a few weeks ago and since I plan to return, I just keep my fingers crossed that the runways that are open will stay or become problem free. Bureaucracy at its worst?

[QUOTE]Originally posted by avvocato: Ciao avvocato, It is very nice of you to point out the double-airport situation. The Thais are very kind and helpful. Khon Kaen, Trang are beautiful. You will have a great trip. People in the north are predominantly Buddhist and are exceedingly hospitable. Don't worry too much. This is a great month to go too. Thailand will still be relatively dry and not too hot. Yet the mango season means you get to taste the great mango and sticky rice dessert. An fabulous alternative to flying: You must know that there are a few great train lines going north. Train travel in Thailand is one of the best in the world. Even train food is good. Bon voyage.
