The photos are great. Your friend is so lucky to have three months to travel in Africa. She went to some wonderful locations. The photos of Zanzibar are beautiful.
It was great to see that she made it to Namibia. I love Namibia and my dream is to go back one day. If she is interested in seeing other photos, send her my Nambia gallery. She would have also loved Etosha.
Great photos. I have a question for Marta. since you live near Seattle I assume you flew out of Sea-Tac airport. I also live near Seattle and will be flying out of the same airport to South Africa in October. What airline did you fly? The flights seem to all be 24 hours long. How did you hold up on such a long flight. I am looking at my different flying options and would love some input from you.
Thank you

Yes that is about how long the trip was for us. I don't think there are any really good options. It took us total of 30 hours to get to Cape Town. In 2006, there was a flight from Atlanta to Jo'burg. We took the red-eye from Sea-Tac to Atlanta (10pm-6am) and then caught the South African Air flight to Jo'burg leaving around 10am. I think it was 18 hours with a stop in Sao Tome Islands for a crew change and a refuel. We had two hours in Jo'burg to go through customs and catch our flight to Capetown. We arrived around 2pm in Cape Town.
We were able to sleep a little on the red-eye and the first leg of the Jo'burg flight. We actually did pretty good recovering. I think we were so tired we slept well the first night after we arrived. Here's our blog entry from our arrival.
I looked at the current SAA which are from Washington DC and NYC. Those would be one option. The other option is to go to Europe and spend a night in London, Amsterdam, Frankfort or Paris before going to Africa. That was the option that was recommended by our travel agent but we didn't want the extra cost and time of a night in Europe. But it might be the best option.
