Share Travel tips for Latest Hunan /Guizhou/Guangxi province in China

Hi, Allfriends,

I just travel back to Shanghai after total 4 weeks travel in
1- Hunan province(Zhangjiajie / Fenghuang city)
2- Guizhou province(zhenyuan/kaili ' 5 miao minority village and town and leishan/xijiang/rongjiang /congjiang/liping / zhaoxing)
3-Guangxi province(Guilin / yangshuo / sanjiang / chenyang )

Below pls find some tips for FYI:
1-For hunan province:
1)Zhangjiajie -
if you attend tour group, pls rememeber to check your scenic spots list whether it include some spots at top of the mountain , currently yuanjiajie and yangjiajie spots are more natural and attractive instead of huangshizhai(it has a lot of advertisting but it is behind yuanjiajie and yangjiajie.
2)Fenghuang city-
You can choose some small old villages instead of some commercial show if you don't like the show.

2-Guizhou province
1)For Guizhou , pls double check some bus road since some of them are under reconstruction, it is really bad, if you learn bad bus road, pls remember to choose train which more comfortable and fast.
2)It is very attractive for the minority in Guizhou, i strong recommend all to visit if you have no visit plan or if you have time.

3-Guangxi province
1)Suggest all to choose more days in yangshuo since it is more easy to find economical and comfortable hotel instead of Guilin.
2)Also when you visit Yangshuo, pls make sure to be attention on safety since some scenic spots are good but have potential unsafety factor.
3)For Guilin, i strong recommend some restaurants which are close to Shanhu lake (close to waterfall hotel) , it is cheap and decious .

Hope the tips helpful for your trip.

Enjoy!

Yours sincerely,
Susan Zheng

Susan,

If money's no issue and I have one week in Guangxi, would you still recommend Yangshuo over Guilin?

Hi,Buddy,

My suggestion is as below which can cover Guilin and Yangshuo:
1-For Guilin, you can spend for one night (no more than two nights), you can hava a look for the 4 lakes(specially shan lake/Rong lake)and 2 rivers and some mountains.
2-Balance time, you can enjoy yourself in Yangshuo, you can stay in Yangshuo for round 5 days for different spots.

Enjoy!

Yours sincerely,
Susan Zheng

I've just read that the river between Guilin and Yangshuo is too low for a boat ride between the two cities right now. If you are planning a trip to Yangshuo, don't count on a boat ride from Guilin to get there. When we go in April we plan to have a driver from the hotel in Yangshuo pick us up at the airport and take us straight to Yanshuo. I realize that means not really seeing Guilin but with limited time, I would rather spend time in a more laid back area.

I'm not surprised that the Li River is too low for the boat trip from Guilin to Yanshuo.
We were there in late October and the level was terribly low even then.

It didn't stop 120 boats from being allowed to set out on the supposedly four hour trip to Yangshuo. The trip actually took nearly seven hours as the enormous convoy chugged its belching way to its destination and then tried to dock with all the resulting fumes, smoke, noise and utter chaos.

The scenery was spectacular but I'm afraid my enjoyment of its beauty was quite overwhelmed by the sick feeling of sadness and dread at what I'm sure is the impending death of this river.
Lack of rain? Certainly. Greed? Absolutely and completely.

It seemed to me that more and more boats are being sent onto that river to take advantage of the tourist boom despite the ultimate damage that must occur if it keeps on like this.
Make hay while the sun shines? Cut off your nose despite your face?

I don't know - but it was tragic.

PS If you get a chance to go to the Yangshuo River Show don't miss it. It was one of the most memorable highlights of our trip to China.
If they can do what they did with 600 villagers in a provincial town, what on earth will they come up with at the Opening Ceremony at the Beijing Olympics?
