Hi

My wife and I are going to Bangkok and Samui in May. My wife goes to a conferance in Korea the day before she turns 30 so this is something that must be celebrated when we meet up in Bangkok after she is done with the conferance. So my questions is...does anyone have restaurant suggestions for Bangkok? I'm looking for a nice and romantic restaurant that serves great Thai food. I have been to Vertigo on the Banyan Tree building before and I loved the view. I have also read about a place called the Dome...what is it like compared to Vertigo?

Sorry, Gard, can't help you with any useful suggestions - street market eating is more our line. Love it! But I guess it isn't very romantic?

Love Thai food in Thailand and ADORE Vietnamese food in Vietnam

Hi

I love eating at small local places too and I'm sure that we will eat a lot of good food in street markets in Bangkok. But I hope to find a nice place for the birthday celebration. I have gotten some feedback on other forums so I think I have some ideas :-)

Hi Gard,
I would recommend an old standby:
- the Thai buffet, in a restaurant complex operated by the Oriental hotel across the river from the hotel proper. (you go to the hotel at the booked time and a beautiful little boat will take you over.)
Curiously, this buffet is never crowded and even seems to be favored by locals. At least that has been my experience. the restaurant is in a series of low riverside buildings in traditional architecture . you sit on the floor in a very airy room with a great river view.
The food is magnificent, as you would expect from Oriental standard, down to the dessert. In fact, save room for the fried coconut thingies.
Bon appetit.
