We have 1 day in crete to rent a car and see some of the island when our cruise ship docks there for a second time. The first time we plan to see Heraklion, and Knossos, the second time we intend to rent a convertible and see some more of the island. Any special must see places? we have never visited Greece before so are not really clued up on places of interest.

I don't know where your boat docks but we stayed right outside of Chania and enjoyed the area. It is very Venetian.

We dock in Heraklion,but Chania sounds great...Venetian does it for me! so I will put that on the list. Any more ideas?

Unfortunately i was sick most of the week we were in Crete...even went to the doctor there! We did do the drive to the famous Gorge but it is a lot of driving and if you have to go back to Heraklion....i would probably just concentrate on Chania and maybe a few towns in between Heraklion and Chania. Have fun!

Thanks,we have decided to arrange for a rental car to be at the port when we dock(hopefullly a convertible!)and we will head for Chania stopping en route anywhere which appeals.

Our rental car meet us at the airport.....we had taken the ferry from Santorini. As i recall, only taxies can meet at the port. We took a taxi over to the airport. We did have a little dificulty taggin up with him so i would advise to have a phone number handy to call and find out exactly where they are located . OUr guy ended up being on the otherside of the airport from what we originally were told. Have fun!

The roads in Crete leave a bit to be desired with lots of sharp bends. Take your time there. Pop into Rethymnon which is a nice little harbour town.
