I've become interested in Armenia recently, after a website project I've got involved in had me discovering how many beautiful and very ancient stone churches there are over there; I'm big on old stone.
So: anybody have any particular advice about Armenia? Season to go, best fare carriers, advice on walking, peculiarities, etc.
I don't have any personal experience traveling in this region but it sounds cool. I find the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forums a good starting point for less travelled countries. Have you checked out the forums on Eastern Europe/Caucasus or Central Asia?
We have close friends who are Armenian who now live both in the States and in Armenia. I have written to them with regard to your inquiry thinking that they may be able to be able to help you with your study. If you and they are amenable, would you prefer to be in touch with them directly?

My hubby can help you with this. He has traveled a bit in Armenia and has some photos of ancient structures that you might find interesting. He can also tell you about different regions in Armenia. I forget which regions he has been to exactly since I wasn't on the trip.
Let me know if you want me to pass on his email address to you.
Thank you all. I did see LonelyTree (and a couple of Armenian forums; nothing quite as good as SlowTrav when we're "on") I'll jabber with just about anybody, of course. . . . Not much urgency for me, wouldn't be for 18 months at least, but I'll be very grateful for any SlowTrav-type information (as opposed to pretty pictures and historical information, much easier to come by).
