Curious about the current price of gas in France? There are several sites that provide listings of the current prices. The sites also provide information about the stations such as open hours including Sundays, map of the location of the station and other services available such as car wash which might be useful on a trip.
This page from Americans in France list the different sites and include a bit of information on using the sites and type of fuel in France. On some of the sites, the information has been entered by members so some of the information may not be accurate. I kinda like zagaz site. It might be handy to take a look at one of the sites before a trip.
Does anyone know if the supermarket/hypermarches stations will accept US (non-chip) cards? I saw that their prices were lower when we were in France last year but I didn't try them because I was worried that my card wouldn't work. I also assumed that they don't have attendants or cashiers where you can pay cash.
We were unable to use our American non-chip card at hyper-marche stations in France last year...and had a difficult time finding ANY station with an attendant on a Sunday (bad planning on our part).

We found that hypermarche stations with manned payment booths would accept our non-puce credit cards (LeClerc, Super U, and two other major brands). We would fill up then present the card to the employee who swiped it per usual and completed the transaction. There was never any confusion or refusal at these places, just business per usual.
On Sunday, we lucked out near Sault and found a mom & pop place that was open and took our credit card.
The supermarket and hypermarket gas stations have attendants on duty during the store's regular business hours, but not when the store itself is closed. You can use non-chip U.S. cards when there is an attendant on duty by pumping your gas or diesel fuel and then driving up to the booth and handing your U.S. card to the attendant.
Note that it is usual for some rows of pumps to be reserved for automatic payment (with a Chip & PIN card). To pay with a non-chip card (or cash) look for rows of pumps marked "Caisse" (cashier).
