I've been tossing around the idea for a while of starting a very informal hiking club - and using the ubiquitous power of Slowtrav to help organise some outings.

The idea will be to do some easy to mid-level walks in the countryside. The only thing obligatory is a lengthy stop for a picnic !

Spending 2-4 hours like this away from the crowds, out in nature and seeing things a bit differently can only be good for the soul.

So my idea is to post hopefully every few weeks a date a bit in advance with a meeting time and place. Anyone out there who is interested in joining need only post in reply or email.

I'll provide the map and compass. You provide the scintillating conversation... and picnic provisions are every person for themselves (though I reserve the right to sample anything which looks good ).

I'm shooting for Mondays only because it's a day without any major markets and lots of shops and such are closed and we'll all need to walk off the many calories accumulated each weekend.

SO - TO THAT END - here's Randonée #1 of the newly-formed Association "C.I.R.L." .............

DETAILS:

When and Where: May 7th - we'll meet at 12 noon in the Parking Area at the Fôret des Cedres. The turnoff is on the west side of the D36 between Bonnieux and Lourmarin. It's about a 1km drive up the road after you turn off.

The Hike - will start in the ceder forest and then continue along the crest of the Luberon, with gorgeous views south over the Durance valley to the Ste. Victoire and the Meditterean on a clear day. About 5-6 km in total.

Come one, come all !!

Frank and I will be there, Kevin! I can't wait!

Hmm, C.I.R.L. Is Randonée Luberon part of it?

Kevin,
I will come to exercise my membership ... next summer.
I vacation in the Lot and in Provence alternately. This year is the Lot.
But next year... am signing up right now.

Off topic: a group of Canadians in Paris also has a hiking club. A great way of visiting the surrounding countryside of Paris, or even further way. I once went with them for a memorable hike on Yport-Etretat. No lavender there though.

I will be there in spirit while doing a vineyard tour with guests. Any chance that someone will bring a camera so we can all enjoy the afterglow of the hike?
