I know that this is far from "Slow" Travel but I will be returning from 10 days in Italy thru CDG. We fly out of Rome at 6:50 pm on Sat night Aug. 16th and land at CDG at 9 PM, we conncect to a flight to JFK at 8:25 the next morning. I am thinking we will stay right at the airport. Does anyone have experience with the Novotel at the CDG terminal or the Novotel Roissy Convention Center? Which would you reccommend? They both seem to be right at the airport. Now for the area where I really nedd help - what can we do with one night - just a few hours really. Would it be possible to spend a few hours & get to see the Eiffel tower & walk along the Champs d'Elysées. Should we take public transportation or a taxi. What do taxi's cost? "We" are myself, my husband and our two boys age s 11 & 13. This is our first trip to Europe! Any help would be appreciated.
I did a quick find on previous posts to see if we had any information on these specific Novotels. No luck. But I did find a couple of threads discussing hotels at CDG. Accomodations at CDG Easiest/Cheapest hotel near CDG
Regarding trying to do a quick visit to Eiffel Tower, etc. You are getting in pretty late. By time you get your bags and check into your hotel, it will probably be at least 10pm. I'm guessing that late, your best bet will be a taxi. I don't know the current cost. This thread from a year ago talks about getting into Paris for a quick trip.
You can ride the RER train from CDG into Paris for about $15 or so a ticket. Takes maybe 45 minutes or an hour. A taxi from CDG into the center costs at least $80 and takes at least as long.
Given a landing at 9 p.m., you won't be in a hotel room, even at the airport, until 11 p.m. Luggage retrieval, customs and check-in and all, right? Not nearly enough time to take the family into the city. Sorry. Next trip!
Thanks! Bucky "Trying To Slow Down" Edgett
