Any recommendations on best way to get there?

I looked at the RER routes and it would mean taking one line into Paris, changing lines and then out to Versailles....a journey time of about an hour and a half.

Driving doesn't look too much better either, over an hour, but we are 2 adults and 2 small children.

Any advice, please? Thank you!

And if you take the train to Paris, you'll need to change stations - arriving at Lyon & leaving from Austerlitz. The stations are somewhat close together - but with baggage you probably won't want to walk - and cross th Seine. People have reported horror stories trying to catch taxis at train stations.

If you have a car, drive.

We'll have a car -- we're going to Disneyland Paris for Memorial Day Weekend (no eye rolls, please, we have two small children and Orlando is very far away)

But on Saturday we thought we'd make a day of it at Versailles. We could take the train because kids think that is fun, but I think it will just take too long and probably be very expensive for 3 tickets.

Ashley,
I am not rolling eyes.
I have some questions that were not made clear in your two posts:
Are you based in Paris and just going to Eurodisney for a day trip? Or are you based out in (eye-rolling) Marne La Vallée?
If you are based in Paris, must you make the visits of Eurodisney and Versailles on the same day? They are in two oppositing directions from Paris.
Eurodisney is pretty much a whole-day thing.
If you are based in Eurodisney, you are very much confined to visiting … well, Eurodisney, as the location is not known for having many points of interest nearby.

There are two destinations that are not a long drive away, unlike Versailles:

- The Vaux le Vicomte castle. Show your chidlren the Leo di Caprio movie (not "The Departed", Not Worthy , the one about the man with the iron mask Cool ) and tell them they will visit the real McCoy. The castle also has a little game book with questions and riddles for children to solve throughout the visit, which is a great way of keeping them interested. The carriage museum and the incredible beauty of the castle and gardenes will suit everyone, children or adult.
- the medieval town of Provins too can be fun for children.

Thank you for the suggestion. We are visiting Disney, but don't need 2.5 days there, so we will go to Disney on Sunday and Versailles on Saturday.

We (adults) have been to Vaux-le-Vicomte, for the nighttime tour, which is beautiful and have thought about going back, although it will depend on how nuts they are without a nap that day. We are also thinking of the doing the wildlife/safari park that is near Versailles, the name escapes me -- Thoiry?

We stopped in Provins on our last trip to Disney last year, and it was interesting to us, but the kids were underwhelmed.

We also thought about the Louvre, etc, in Paris itself, but plan to come back to Paris in the off-season to do more indoor stuff, whereas we thought Versailles would be great this time of year.

Château de Thoiry is great for kids, but it is again on the very opposite side of Paris. If Versailles is too far, château de Thoiry is too far.
