I found a very inexpensive rental in Paris on Lodgis for a small studio in the 9th for my granddaughter and friend. Just wondered about the agency and whether 313 euros was out of line for a week in this area, near metro Cadet.

We used Lodgis rentals a few summers ago. It was all very straight forward and on the up and up.

Don't know about the price in the 9th specifically, but 313/week sounds good to me for Paris.

The Cadet has a very good kosher market.
It is also very central and is covered by several metro lines.
One can also walk to the Louvre to the south, the Madeleine to the west and Canal St Martin to the east.
I don't know anyone who has used Lodgis, but I did notice it had a wide range of rentals including very inexpensive ones, and that the site has a good marking system of the quality of the location.
However, if the rental is right on an "artère" like rue Faubourg Montmartre, it can have a noise problem just about 24/7.
313 euro seems to me very low for a central location.
Barbara, since I live so near, if you want, I can go by the address and "snoop" for you if you want.

That's my area. Rue Cadet is nice, it's a market street. Lots of good shops. For kosher food, you need to go to my street, Rue Richer...
Now, the rental itself... 18 sq meters on a first floor of an ordinary building on busy Rue Rochechouart for E313 doesn't cry "good deal" to me.

18 square meters? Indeed it is no bigger than a good-size hotel room.
A bit small for a 3-week stay.
Rue Rochechouart is also a busy thoroughfare.

Nancy,

If you are willing to snoop, that would be great. This is for two 22 year olds for one week. Our granddaughter and Irish boyfriend may join us for a week next March. The apartment on rue Rochambeau we are renting is opposite a small park and near metro Cadet. Since their hours are likely to be very different than ours, it seemed simpler for everyone to take a small inexpensive apartment near us instead of having them on a mattress on our floor. I know this is your neighborhood and we are hoping to spend some time with you both as our guests for dinner.

A double room at a youth hostel would be more than the 313 euros. But davidkorn, if you think I can find less expensive for them in this area let me know. At their age, they won't care about noise or size just clean with no bedbugs and safe.

I was nearly going to recommend an alternative, but your response to Nancy changes your original question significantly. If you have an apartment nearby then take the Lodgis option. Hopefully you have a washing machine as I guess they won't do it.

We went about 75% down the track of renting a Lodgis apartment a couple of years ago but a last minute alternative came up which was excellent. At the stage we were at I did not have a problem with Lodgis.

Barbara,
I too now agree with Monty. The Lodgis option now seems like a convenient option, a well-furnished big guest room that is an independent annex to your bigger apartment. Yeah go for it.
I have a lot of experience of first getting a rental, then having to get a bunch of smaller rentals nearby because friends want to join. (The best/worst case of such "blob" rental cluster was renting at first a castle then its 3 dépendences plus 5 houses in nearby villages. That was no vacation. I call it an invasion.) It is an organization headache but is huge fun in the end.
Looking forward to your being a neighbor. How is your walking problem? I hope that is being fixed because we have some historical (first wrote hysterial) walks waiting for you...

nancy,

My walking is somewhat better so looking forward to both hysterical and historical walks with you and if the dollar is better by then, also some shopping.
The apartment we rented for us is through Perfectly Paris and is on rue Rochambeau near Parc Montholon and Lodgis does have a one bedroom on Rue Montholon at 500 euros that I thought of for grandchild and her friend but it is 500 euros rather than the 313 euros for the studio.
But they need to decide if they are even coming to Paris. She has spent the last two Spring breaks in Dublin with him and will be there all of this July and August. At their age planning ahead is not typical.

Monty, I am certainly open to alternatives as I am not likely to book anything for them for a while. And yes, our apartment has a washing machine but imagine they can handle a week without using one. I am certainly not spending my time in Paris doing their laundry!

Just an update. I went on line and the apartment I am looking at for grandchild and friend is 250 euros with the additional money for the agency fee and then there is the security deposit. Thus if anyone has other ideas for the 9th for them near either Cadet metro or Poisoinaire (sp?) metro or Montholon Square i am open to suggestions. I also cannot locate the cancellation policies of Lodgis and want to know these just in case.

Thanks.

that seems quite cheap... Unless you can go direct with the owner, but you'd have to find out if they have a listing on vrbo or another one of those

Update. While getting the long list of things that had to be done from Lodgis, e.g. copy of occupant's passprt, insurance registration, etc. I looked at favorites on this site and found a well reviewed studio in the 11th. This is the apartment I am taking for granddaughter and her friend. It is further from us but a 40 minute walk which kids won't mind and also accessible by metro.

Apartment has charm, has been well reviewed and the owners are a joy to deal with.

That sounds like a wise decision, Holger. Which apartment is it?

I guessed right! Here's their slowtrav classified. If my husband were able to handle that many stairs, I'd love to stay there. The owners, Dave (Happy in Paris here on the message board) and Aralynn, are terrific.

Bravo, Barbara.
The Paris Garret is well-loved by all and is also in a hip young neighborhood. Your granddaughter will have so much fun. Hope she remembers to come by to see you!
She can take direct metro to chez toi.
From the 11th she can take the metro line 11 and get out at Bonne Nouvelle ou rue Montmartre, which is about 5 minute walk to Square Montholon. I do it quite often.
Of course if she gets out at rue Montmartre, it will be impossible to resist taking the beautiful passages Jouffroy and Verdeau, which will stretch the walk a bit…

Americana, you mean Line 9 don't you? And it seems you've been in Paris for quite a long time, as "Rue Montmartre" was renamed "Grands Boulevards" a long time ago !

Mea culpa.
I was looking at a metro map from the Carolingian dynasty.

Thanks all. Really excited as I just mailed the deposit on the apartment this morning. Granddaughter and friend are really delighted and loved the description.
