We have been to a number of markets these last couple of months here in Paris, meaning the open air markets in the different neighborhoods. I have always liked them.

However, this time in Paris, most of the produce does not appeal to me. It seems that most vendors get their produce from the same place. I know that the weather hasn't been great. We haven't been able to get great fruit from any of these markets and prices have been pretty high as well.

Has anyone have better experience? Are there any farmer/producers in these markets anymore?

I may be wrong, but I'm not sure there are many farmers that actually take produce and cheeses, for example, to market in Paris. Even in small towns like Saint-Aignan, only some of the vendors are actually local producers and farmers. Others buy their produce and other products through the national distribution channels, which start mostly at Rungis.

The itinerant markets get a lot of the "maraîchers", which should mean fresher and less expensive produce.
Christy, I know you have been to the Friday Anvers one. Didn't you find it to be so?
But it is true that Paris markets of course can't compare with those in smaller towns and villages in the provinces.
Am still dreamy about the 3.2 euro/kilo farm-fresh strawberries on the Villefranche de Rouergue market. My friends also noticed that as we travelled north(Paris)ward, strawberry prices slowly but steady went up but not the quality, hélas.
