Hi,
I am planning a trip in June for 3 weeks to Paris,Venice, and Switzerland. After reading this forum I decided to look for a paris apt instead of a hotel. Well I found a 3 bedroom, 2 bath on Rue de Malte, a couple blocks from the 4th eme between Bastille and Republique. I know nothing about Paris and it's neighborhoods and would appreciate anybody's input. Also the apt. has a small conservatory off one of the bedrooms- what might this look like?

Unattractive and very noisy (big-time traffic, and possibly late-night revelers from the chansonniers and the cabarets for which the République area is well known), but relatively central, and certainly convenient to the subway, even more than most of Paris, which is saying a lot.

Thankyou Bill. I got to see the apt.building first hand on pagesjaune.fr and walk around the neighborhood a bit. There is a bar/brasserie across the street,a butcher?(bougarie) on the street level of the building, and a newstand, cafe and Metro Oberkampf kitty-corner. I am very excited about this trip. I will be in Paris the week of the Paris Air Show. Also Fete de la Musique is 6/21 and midsummer fireworks are 6/24 on Quai St.Bernard. Do you know anything about these events?

I'm not very attentive today...I meant boucherie and the website is pagesjaunes.fr in case I'm not the only one who had never heard of it. Smile

If you put the www in it becomes a link we can click - www.pagesjaunes.fr - I had not heard of this site.

Your apartment is in an OK place - not inspirational, but certainly not dangerous, and you've got easy access to everywhere else by métro and bus (don't overlook the bus system in Paris - it's great and it keeps you above ground where you can see the city as you travel).

The Fête de la Musique is a France-wide musical celebration. In Paris there will likely be all kinds of musical concerts and events - some of them free. The fireworks are also part of a nationwide celebration known as the Fête de la St-Jean (the fête de la musique is a spin-off of this also, I believe), which is essentially a remnant of pagan summer solstice rituals. I've never been in Paris for this, but in our village there are bonfires and outdoor communal meals and fireworks at midnight.
