We are disembarking from a ship this coming Tuesday and have been told the cab fare to Nice would be about 120 Euro. Does anyone have any tips as to the best way to get to Nice (It's only 6 miles or so!) without biting our wallet? Of course, we'll have two large pieces of luggage and two carryons. We would appreciate any advice. Thanks
There is a train the travels along the coastline. You can take the train from Villefrance to Nice for under 3 Euros. It only takes 10 minutes and they come every 1/2 hour or so. The train station in Villefrance is right off the beach easy to find. Judie

also next to the train station there is the gare routiere buses to Nice is a snap. at basse corniche area next to the beach/harbor in Villefranche-sur-mer is the one for Nice but inquiry there. the bus company is ligne d'Azur i believe line 81 is the one.
Yikes!!! 120euro!!! We stayed in Villefranche in June, and used both the train and the bus. At that time, the train fee to Nice was around 2.50euro, and the bus fare was 1.30 euro. I'm wondering where they will drop you off. If you land near the sandy beach area, the train station is close -- yes there is a bit of a hill. If you land near the other end of the bay (closer to Hotel Welcome) the bus might be an easier walk with the luggage. There is a bus stop located right in front of the tourist information office.

We just returned from four nights at the Hotel Welcome in Villefrance and we delighted each day in watching the cruise ships caravan their passengers to the shoreline near our hotel. The train station is a short walk from the docking area, but there are a few stairs to climb, so be aware of that, with your luggage situation. The buses pick up at the info center, but, it, too, is a walk up some steep streets from the harbor area. There are cabs waiting near the docking area, and our cab ride to Nice for our early-morning departure to the train station was 40 euros. I'd double-check the cab fare before deciding. The buses were crowded on the day we wanted to ride to Monaco and the train was, too.
