A little green scoop: The late Pamela Harriman offered a baby sequoia to either the city of Paris or to France. The last I checked, the tree is no longer a baby and is outstanding - in more ways than one - outside the US embassy, between the embassy and the Champs. I remember when it was offered, it was no taller than the people around it. Still, it is by no no means an adult sequoia size. I wonder if the French knew what they were getting into when they got the gift. One day that thAng is going to cast a shadow on the Champs…

Thanks for that. Actually the Alan Riding piece was published in 2002! How time flies! I guess it's a popular subject. Either way, it's good to have both as references for those interested.
