According to the owner of the apartment where we will be staying, there is a post office nearby with guichets automatiques. Are they any differnt from bank ATMs? Will my Wells Fargo ATM card work there?

they should but la poste will not have correspondance terms with Wells Fargo so you will get a charge and commission on the extraction.

Is Wells Fargo affiliated with a bank in France? I guess that bank would give you the best deal, if there is one.

Otherwise, the post office ATM machines are just like any bank's machines.
