Can be quite variable. You won't be swimming in the Med, if that's what you are looking for. But you might very well be having lunch outdoors on a pleasant terrace in the old town! All that being said, Nice and Provence in general have the nicest winter weather in France, and it sure beats New England!
Thank you for your prompt reply re. Riviera winter weather. We promptly went to your website, and are entranced. We are now thinking we could spend 3 or 4 days at your place, then a week or 10 days in Nice and environs, before going on to spend time with our son and daughter-in-law who live in Lazio,Italy. Some of our friends are amused because we are already planning a year ahead, but that's half the fun...so we will be in touch with you again.
Thanks for your kind comments and you are right, it is never to early to plan ahead...
I thought a first-hand report of our last week's weather might show you what I mean. Plus, I couldn't quite believe it myself!
About 10 days ago, we were having our lunches outdoors in light sweaters. Very pleasant. Occasionally, we could see just a light dusting of snow on the top of the Luberon and Mt. Ventoux. Next thing you know, an incredible wind came up out of the South (which is called the Siroco) and brought with it apocolyptic clouds of dust and sand from the Sahara Desert. No joke. Everything was covered in orange dust - then we had rain dumped on us for a solid day, before the wind shifted around from the North (the famous Mistral) which has blown all the clouds and bad weather out to sea and left us with sparkling clear days and probably as cold as you have in Boston!
So you can see that Provence weather in February is nothing if not variable! Anyway, it keeps us on our toes...
I'm here in Vence, Côte d'Azur, since last November. (Used to live in Boston, now live on the Med coast of Turkey.) Came here to spend the winter but this year has been much colder and rainer here in s France than I remember it when I lived here in the late '80s. Weather all over Europe has been cold and rainy, even snow in Tuscany and Umbria. But yes, it does beat Boston weather!!
