I wanted to tell everyone about a new rental house in the village of Bonnieux.

We met Christine and her family this past summer and got together with them a couple of times. They recently bought a sweet little house right in the village, just up the hill from Henri Tomas' patisserie. The family will be using the house a few weeks a year and renting it out the rest of the time.

We liked the house so much that we're renting it for two weeks next March (a spring break trip), when we're heading back as a family primarily to do lots of hiking.

The house is four levels with two bedrooms and two baths, very clean and nicely decorated with everything one would need. The top level has a small terrace with a dining table that looks off the back of Bonnieux toward the Petit Luberon. It is an ideal place for a couple or small family who want an in-village location. And it is extremely economical!!

We told Christine about Slow Travel, and I'm so excited that she's just placed a classified here. We'll write a review after we stay there next spring, but I wanted to let others know about this special house.

kaydee, that sounds wonderful! And something I could afford, with sweetie and/or a couple of friends.

For some strange reason I can't open the google map, but I did open mappy and michelin. Sweetie has a car, but if not I'll just have to figure out if I can get there by public transport. (Usually one can, in France).

Kathy -

That place looks really nice, and what a view!

In your opinion, do you think 3 couples could each sleep comfortably there?

Lagatta, maybe Chris or Pauline can check on the google map link. It worked fine for me...

Re. public transportation, there is a limited bus service in the Luberon. Very limited. And there are taxis. Some people use this area as a base for biking or hiking. Others may have a different opinion, but I really feel that in this part of Provence, you need a car to explore with flexibility.

Terry, the house can sleep six, but if it was three couples, they'd have to know each other VERY well. (What are you thinking of? The house we rented for our six months and last spring-- La Bastide Vieille-- would have much more room for three couples. No one would have to sleep in the living room and each could have their own bath.)

kaydee, if I'm with other people, someone will surely have a car (most of these friends are Europeans); just concerned about getting there in the first place! I've made a file about places I can afford, or can afford my fair share!

You'd have to be quite an athletic cyclist to get there... I googled Bonnieux, it is a beautiful little hill town. I ride my bicycle every day (except death of winter) but I'm no athlete.

I have friends I could share such a place with - depends on people's requirements. The main problem wouldn't be the living room - it would be the bedroom wiht the twin and trundle!

kaydee, I have a Mac, and although it is a PowerMac and there is usually no more compatibility problem, once and a while such things do crop up. But I rarely have any problem looking at Google maps... mysteries of computers.

I just emailed Pauline about that link. It works fine for me, but she's been working with google maps more than I have, so she may have an idea.

The house does look very nice! I'll look forward to your review of it, Kaydee. And thank you for telling the owner about Slow Travel!

Of course! I wasn't even thinking of that place - it would be perfect. My BIL and my SIL, along with Stu and I, are going to be planning a reunion like we did in Paris. Probably not this year but next. Never too early to be prepared with options! (sweet spot for the Luberon here!) Star

It works for me in IE and FireFox - what browser, version number and computer (PC or MAC) are you using? I think Google Maps do not work in every browser. (Thanks for telling us!)

Mac OS X version 10.4
PowerMac (must check version)
Most software works for me.

I use Safari, not IE. Perhaps that is the problem.

Our Google maps work in the Safari browser, but you may need to upgrade to the most recent version. I installed at least 2 upgrades to my original (with Mac OS X 10.3) Safari version before the Google maps started working. I was able to see this map with Safari; here is the version information I get when I click Safari/About Safari:

Safari
1.3.2 (v312.5)

If you do this upgrade, could you let us know if it fixes the problem? Thanks!
