The New York Times reports on a flood-related, or maybe political, move by Paris's Socialist mayor who "thinks it is fashionable and modern to serve little democratic wines.” So out with the pricey bottles, and some oenophiles are in a snit:
No subscription. I did register on the site some time ago, so maybe that's it. It didn't cost anything. As far as I know, it does not cost, except for Times Select, which I do not have, at least it does not cost in Europe.
I think it's registration (which is free), rather than a paid subscription which is needed. I know I registered with them years ago - and I opened the link successfully just now.
Registering is a bit of a bore: you have to do the usual things of providing an email address, choosing a password, etc. But I've certainly enjoyed the NYT's travel writing in the links that I've followed over the years.

I can also e-mail that article (a feature of the New York Times site allows it, so there is no copyright problem). If you'd like just let me know. You can track down my e-mail address through the links below. I don't want to post it in this message.
its ok do not read the NYT for years now.it goes with my motto a book or printed matter its only the personal opinion of its writers not necessarily mine. The NYT fit that bill

Thanks for the article link, Dave. I saw a mention of the city's wine sale on the news last night, but the article went into much more (fascinating!) detail.

these are the wines that Chirac began collectin while mayor of Paris and now the new mayor is disposing of to people far away as china. the proceeds goes to who?
no: it could to pay the banlieux still waiting for their hand outs as promised last year.... and stop another wave of burnings. However, i think the new mayor will pocket it.
