We just decided to spend this weekend in Lyon. I read the hotel reviews and made reservations at Hotel des Artistes. Thanks, cubbies, I booked one of the privilege rooms.

Does anybody have any recommendations - to do, to see, to eat in Lyon?

Thanks.

We found the Museum of the Resistance very interesting and worth while. Also enjoyed the Silk Museum and the Traboules and simply walking around. There are many good restaurants including one of George Blanc's.

You can also take the funicular up to the Roman Ruins.

The traboules - circuitous alleyways that go from one building to another from one alley to another - in the old town are fun to explore.
This website gives a description and 5 such traboule maps.
See you when you get back, I hope.

Thank you. I am reading a couple of guidebooks on Lyon and looking up info in the web.

We have been in Lyon before for a daytrip out of Paris a few years ago and also a few days in 2003. It was a "Let's go to Lyon this weekend" decision yesterday evening after we tasted Bernachon chocolate (of Lyon) from the shop Etoile d'Or a block away from our apartment. Happy Happy

AiP, let's get together the following weekend?

We arrived in Lyon at 9:10 on Saturday morning. Our room at Hotel des Artistes was not ready until after 2:00 p.m. so we left our meager luggage with the front desk and did our sightseeing.

We purchased a Liberte card (transport pass) for the day for 4.40 euros/person. It was worth the money since we did our sightseeing this day: Cathedral St-Jean, Basilique de Notre Dame (by finicular), a couple of other churches, les Halles, Bernachon Chocolates on cours Franklin-Roosevelt, Vieux Lyon and Le Mercerie. We only saw one traboule on rue du Boeuf very late in the day. I read somewhere that the traboules are mostly open in the morning. We did not bother to go to any museums by choice.

Sunday in Lyon was rain, lightning, thunder almost all day. We read a lot in our room. We managed to get out twice and both times had to return to our hotel to get dry. Monday dawned warm and sunny but, alas, we had a train to catch for Paris.

The hotel is nice, the staff cordial and our room was fine for the weekend. Unfortunately, the elevator was out of order and the repairman who came on Friday told them that it will be another week before it gets fix.

And our room was on the fifth floor; Eek yes, five flights of stairs. For our trouble, we were given an additional 20% discount on top of the weekend discount. We ended up paying 170 euros for our two night stay.

Maybe the 5th floor walkup helped burn off the Bernachon chocolates. Wink

Sounds like good customer service from the hotel to give you an additional discount. I hope you'll submit a review!
