Well, we're back in planning mode here (can I have a woo hoo). So one of the things Sammi wants to do in Paris is see a fashion show. I've heard tale that the Galleries Lafayette have free ones (http://www.galerieslafayette.com/#fr/home.htm) but my French is non-existent (and/or I'm being dense b/c I don't see an English icon), so does anyone know if that's true? If not, anyone know some other sources to see a show? I still need to book, but we're targeting to be there aug 1 - aug 8 (give or take a couple of days).

I had always thought GL put them up only arround fashion week, but whatdya know…

According to this website :
"Défilés de mode gratuits le vendredi à 15h de Pâques à octobre.
Renseignements et réservations au 01.42.82.30.25 ou sur www.galerieslafayette.com
(Free-of-charge fashion shows Friday 3pm from Easter to October.
Information and reservation 01 4282 3025 or www.galerieslafayette.com)

Dunno if a GL fashion show (by which I mean for general audience) would have this hype detail:
Every private fashion show that I had managed to drag my hubby poo to, there were always, - I mean INVARIABLY, - a model wearing a 100% transparent top, vacuum packed.
Finally at one of the last shows that he deigned to attend, my hubby poo exclaimed in indignation: "why don't I ever see THAT on the street?"

Kim,
So happy that you in the planning stage. I was in Paris in October and had emailed Galleries Lafayette about 2 months prior. They have a fashion show (free) every Friday. I think it is 3:00. It isn't a "fancy" room, but something that we enjoyed. The show is just what teenagers would like as the models are young and so are the clothes. When I didn't get an answer to my first email, I sent another and got the confirmation (which you must have to be admitted). We made a day of L'Orangerie, walking around Place Vendome and then lunch & shopping at GL and then the fashion show.
Enjoy!

You can make the GL reservation online. They are slow at responding. They are free and the young will probably enjoy.

We went last Spring on the Friday, but to really enjoy a spectacular High Fashion/High Tea, make arramgements with the Hotel Bristol for one of theirs. We went the following day and no comparison, whatsoever. The gowns were beautiful and the models were all truly lovely.

The Bristol does not have an advance schedule. If on their mail list, as I am, they will e-mail you the dates of the next one. I receive them regularly. One showing most months. The next one is Feb. 7th. I will be able to catch one when in Paris from mid April to mid May. The cost. 50 euros. Well worth it!

Enjoy,

Joan

Thanks for this thread! Now I hope to go to a free fashion show there with my teenager daughter in June. Here's what I found out: The galerieslafayette.com website does have an english page. Click on Languages to the lower left. This page tells about the free fashion shows on Fridays at 3pm: http://www2.galerieslafayette.com/international/goFolde...ng=en&fontLang=latin I emailed them at this address for a reservation: welcome@galerieslafayette.com

When (If?) I get a confirmation, I'll post it here.

Thanks for the info. I guess when we arrive (and the schedule for the Bristol) will determine which we choose.

Any idea how long the Bristol show is (e.g., 30 minutes? 60 minutes?) Personally, I like the idea of combining tea with the show but, on the other hand, I'll probably be doing something else during that time with my nephew while my Mom goes to the show with Sammi, so we'll have to see.

For the Bristol High Fashion/High Tea, you will need to make your reservations in advance. E-mail them to put you on their mailing list for upcoming dates. It probably lasts 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

It is lovely, but then what else would you expect from the Bristol!

I have just received an e-mail from the Bristol re the High Tea/High Fashion shows for February. They have added the 14th. So, now it is the 7th and the 14th... two in February!

The hours are 3:30 to 5:00 approximately.

If interested, e-mail them for reservations.

I wonder why the Bristol calls it "high tea". I have a Brit friend who tells me that high tea is actually a working class dinner, and "afternoon tea" is the dainty experience we all think of that includes small sandwiches, scones, etc.

Kim, how exciting to be planning your Paris trip! I'm sending out a big WooHoo right now!
I'm happy that people have responded to your query on the GL fashion show. And I'm happy to know it still exists. When my oldest daughter was 15 we did a mom daughter trip to Paris and way back then we also did the GL fashion show. At that time I did reserve (and as stated above reservations were necessary). I can only vouch for what we experienced but it was great fun. Music, runway, flashing lights and pretty models. It was perfect for a teen. It's a rather smallish room with little tables. At that time there were petite chocolates set out for the guests. It was really a fun outing. Good luck and here's another "WooHoo".

Daniel....The Bristol actually does call it "afternoon tea"....

Galeries Lafayette must have changed as there are no tables or snacks of any kind now, or at least not as of last Oct. It was just a warehouse type room with some chairs lined up on either side of a walkway, of sorts.

Just wanted to report that I emailed for a reservation and got it within a few weeks. Unfortunately, by then I had changed my mind about the dates we would be in Paris. So I responded to the email asking for a date change, and got a new reservation within 2 days. Nice!

We don't go until June. But I'll report back then!

Hi all, just wanted to thank you again for your help. Unfortunately, the Bristol does not do their fashion teas during the summer but we have confirmed reservations for the Friday show at Galleries Lafayette!

I hope to post a bit of a postcard with the information when I return.
