Has anyone visited here? While it does sound interesting from historical perspective my wine interests lean more toward TASTING something I am going to like and want to buy! Not certain if this wine is a "novelty" or an "I must drink this because it is so good". Appreciate the feedback...it was recommended as an interesting place to visit but I'm probably more about the wine than the history of it, which would be a bonus!

Oops...sorry, I believe it's in/near Beaucaire? It's a Roman winery, apparently they are making wines in the Roman fashion and describe them as being different than modern wines? One of the people who told me about it is not a big wine drinker. Selfishly, I will probably not have time for more than a few winery stops this trip with my kids so I want to make sure to use them on wines I am likely to enjoy. Thanks!

I have never heard of this winery, but it might be fun to check out - especially since my 6th grader just studied early Roman life in school. I hope the wine is worth the trip.

That was the one that was mentioned in a recent NY Times article on Roman Provence. Shannon called out that portion of the article. I checked out their website and it does look like it might be fun with children especially if they are interested in Roman history.

Mas de Tournelles Winery

Edited to add: I didn't see too many reviews for their wines so I don't know how good it is.

Marta, your link to Shannon's post with the NY Times article is great for me! I'd tried a search on the topic before I posted the question but mine came back empty. I'd only found the winery's website via Google, nothing with any reviews/opinions--I'll keep trying to find something on the wines. The Times piece is helpful with a couple other ideas we were tossing around, too. My boys have a huge interest in Roman history. While the winery could be a bit on the touristy side, I think I read something on their website earlier in the week about the archaeological dig still being in progress. Might be interesting if we could catch a glimpse and maybe I should just drop the wine review searches and be pleased if I really like one of them... Thanks again, Susan

Regarding their wine - if you haven't tried this already - search on the name of their wines instead of the name of the winery. You might find more information. I tried searching for one or two of their wines by name and didn't find anything. If not, I think you plan to just go and see if you like them is good. It does sound interesting and different.
