Cahors seems to come up in the conversations quite often and I'm wondering if maybe we missed something when we were there in the summer of 2002. It was a pleasant size, we found a nice covered market with interesting wine options in the cask, a great little restaurant near the church where we sat and watched a wedding party emerge, all of the main street was closed to traffic and full of tables and people dancing and strolling while soaking in the live jazz bands...yea, maybe it is nice! I wonder why I was anxious to leave there? Maybe it was too hot? Could it have been that the approach to the town was not very interesting (we were travelling on foot on the Chemin de Compostella)? Maybe I was too tired to enjoy all that it had to offer? Is it worth giving it a second chance?

It's so nice to travel to France from my Oregon computer room in the middle of winter!

I know what you mean. I have not been to Cahors, but I feel the same way about Venice. I got to see the city in the early light (I was rising at 6am each morning) there were bands playing in St Mark's Square, the gondolas and the incredible fish market...but I didn't like Venice. Was it because I was feeling ill? Was it the crowds?

Luckily, I loved Paris though I had expected to hate it...you never know!

There could be times when we are not truly ready for a town, or maybe the town is not ready for us! Either way, maybe I need to revisit Cahors, and Tracy may want to give lovely Venice another chance.

There are so many wonderful towns and villages along the Chemin de Compostella that are worth savoring in their own right that perhaps Cahors was just one too many for me to fully appreciate. Some of my favorites along that walk were Le Puy, Espalion, and Lecture.

Tracy, I'm so happy for you that you "discovered" Paris. When someone asks when is the best time to visit Paris, I always have the same reply...tomorrow.
