When I was in Aix last month, I heard that another major art exhibition is being planned at the Musée Granet for the summer of 2009. This exhibition will focus on Cézanne's influence on modern art, especially on the work of Picasso. There is some preliminary info on the Aix tourist office website here. I read elsewhere that there will be 70 works by Picasso and 30 works by Cézanne. In 2006 we had a chance to attend the major exhibition Cézanne en Provence at the Musée Granet (120 works by Cézanne, and it was fabulous. If you are planning a trip to Provence during this time in 2009 and you enjoy art, this is a great opportunity.

It looks like the 2009 Picasso-Cézanne exhibition will run from late May to late September 2009. In addition, the Château of Pablo Picasso in Vauvenargues will be open to the public on a limited basis. Vauvenargues is a small village at the foot of Mont St. Victoire, about 15 minutes from Aix.

The tourism website says tickets will be available in early 2009. Based on our experience in 2006, reservations will be important. I'll be keeping up with this and will post more information as it is available.

I would love to see this. I can never get enough of Cezanne and I love this kind of compare-and-contrast exhibition with two artists. This one of Cezanne and Pissarro that I saw a few years ago in LA was amazing.
