Keeping you all up to date on my parents' trip plans ;-) Accomodation now booked in Aix, and 25% deposit paid by bank transfer (fee of AUD25, if anyone is interested). The landlords have sent us the 4 page document with a green heading called "KIT saisonnier" Contract de location de locaux vacants meubles. We can figure out the bhe bits they have filled in by hand with our pidgin French, but I have no chance of reading all the fine print on the document. It is clearly a standard form contract - is there anything in the standard terms and conditions of which my parents need to be aware? They want to be sure to fulfill their obligations under the contract.
Also, after their stay they have to leave early in the morning to catch their train. What is the chance that the landlord would agree to inspect the apartment the night before and return the security deposit then? There will be no time in the morning of their departure for my parents to settle any dispute about the return of the security deposit. (They are very careful and honest people, and there would be no problem on their part, but if the landlord inspected in the morning and wanted to keep part or all of the deposit on unreasonable grounds, my parents would not have time to settle the issue.)
Miss G, I feel sure that the landlord will work with your parents re. the security deposit. Hopefully he/she will see right upon meeting them that they are responsible, careful people... especially if they are to be there a couple of weeks.
We always found individual owners very very easy to work with. Actually, in the cases where we had to pay a security deposit, I'm not sure anyone ever really checked!!
Just curious... which apartment in Aix did your parents finally end up renting. Can you post a link? (Also, hope you can get them to write a review for Slow Travel when they return, as it would be nice to get some reviews for Aix...)
Hi Kaydee, It is the apartment of M and Madame Thebault. The apartment is the three windows on the 2nd floor with the red curtains. Doesn't it look lovely? And a great location, considering that my parents are in their 70s and have no car. http://www.locplacegasquet.com/accueilen.html
Yes, I will certainly ask Mum + Dad for a review :-) Cheers, Miss G.
