Looking for information on 1/2 day cooking sessions for high school students enrolled in our Culinary Arts program. We will be on tour in Paris and would like the students to observe some demonstrations or partake in them. The ones that I have read about are incredibly expensive. Either that or guided tours of cooking establishments, the markets, or anything that you feel may be of interest for the students with respect to FOOD! Thanking you in advance!

Hi Norm,

I'm sorry we haven't come up with ideas for you sooner, but one occurred to me this morning.

Several of our members have posted about participating in classes/tours with a group called Meeting the French. See this post by Roz. Most of their offerings are more expensive than I think you're looking for, but they do have a series of programs offered in conjunction with the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau called Meeting the Parisians at Work, which includes visits to boulangeries, patisseries, a cheese shop etc. The prices are very reasonable. Perhaps they could even work with you to develop something specifically for your group of students-- it wouldn't hurt to ask.

aloha norm,
we've booked our stay in paris with vrbo.com/90365.
the owner is a chef and gives lessons. i wish it was after our travel so i could give you a personal recommendation, but he has been delightful to deal with, so i'm sure he will be able to either help or point you in the right direction.
good luck

Kaydee, thank you so much for your information on the "Meeting Parisians at Work" program. It didn't work out that my dates allowed me to do the behind the scenes bakery tour, but in following the links on the website, I saw the cooking classes with Myriam that were offered. I have e-mailed a request, to see if they have an opening for me. Keeping my fingers crossed. Sounds so cool! : )

I had a fun experience with the Meeting the French program last year -- I visited a boulangerie and watched baguettes being made. yum!

I did a half day cooking class when I was in Paris last year, it was the best memory i've taken away with me from France. It was with http://www.cooknwithclass.com .

It was a small class of 5 people, I was on my own and cooked with a family of americans who were a lot of fun. Eric took us around the local food shops in montmartre to buy the food we cooked, we had some cheese tasting as well.

And I still cook the recipes at home Smile
