I want to go in the big fun run they have in the center of town starting at 9am May1 2008.
Last year got there early to the periphery, found a park near a metro station, packed my bag, headed up, to find it was closed! and lots of french people did not seem to realise it would be closed either....I was too chicken to attempt to drive and park in town, and headed off to Cassis for the day (which was GREAT!)
Ok coming back from Oz again for attempt No.2!!!!
Any ideas about the best way to get there (near the south side of the old port I think). I will again have a car with my wife (coming from near Pertuis), and would like to be somewhere not too far away so we can make a getaway after the run if desired, but also have it somewhere safe if we decide to stay and cool off for a while, maybe have lunch etcetc.
Does any of the public transport run that day?
Do all the parking regulations still apply on a public holiday - I am assuming the town traffic will be much less than usual (it was certainly fairly quiet in the outer suburbs on the main roads last year), so can i risk driving in and hope to get a park within 1-2 km of the start....(e.g. JFKennedy Dve?)

Thanks for any help.
from
hopeful Aussie jogger John

Welcome to ST,
Why don't you take the train in?

I guess that is one alternative, just in and out for the race but I would like to have a change of clothes if we want to stay for a whle in town, and have the car if we decide to go somewhere else for the rest of the day.
What timetable to the trains run on a public holiday? is there a peripheral station in Marseille itself I could park near? I think there may in fact be a train from Cassis???? I'll check that, thanks.
