Hi,

I am looking for recommendations for apt rentals in San Sebastián for this summer. I know about Friendly Rentals, but would appreciate if anybody knows about other rental agencies or apts by owner.

Thanks!

Hi,

It will be 3 of us, we rather have 2 bedrooms but depending on size of apt might be able to deal with 1 bedroom and sofa bed.

We - my husband and I and a friend - stayed in this 2-bdrm place and quite liked it because:
1. It is in the old town, in the pintxos epicenter in the world, which is where we wanted to be.
2. Besides being in the great Parte Vieja, it is an easy walk to the waterfront
3. The wonderful restaurant Bodegon Alejandro is in the basement, and the great Mercado de la Bretxa, frequented by all the starred chefs of San Sebastian, is half a block away.

But I can see it may not be for everyone:
1. It is on the 5th floor with no lift. (But somehow with the way the staircase is done, it is an easy climb. Honestly we never minded it.)
2. The smell from the kitchen of Bodegon Alexandro sometimes comes into the apartment. Again we didn't mind. Kust made us want to eat there again.
3. One of the 2 bedrooms is not completely closed off from the dining/living room area. The wall only comes up to counter-height, and the rest is shielded by blinds that can be lifted up. We like an airy room and chose to stay in that room in fact.

It may not be for everyone.

If the stair-climbing aspect of the other rental seems daunting to you, here is a 1st-floor rental in the old town which I had bookmarked. I have not stayed there but love that square and love the pintxos bar Astelena there.

Hi Americana,

Thank you sou much for your ideas. The 5th floor apt w/o elevator is indeed daunting to me. I liked the other one you showed me. My only concern is that in the summer, w/o A/C (I assume it has none) how warm/ noisy would it be? Did you stay in SS in the summer months?

Thanks again for your comments.

Yes in mid September. It was quite cool, as was the whole Basque coast, always with a sea breeze.

You can use Weather Underground "trip planner" to find the statistical temperature for the period you will be visiting. Input "San Sebastian, Spain" and your travel dates.
You'll have a wonderful time. It is a lovely city with great eats, and is a great base for day trips to Bilbao, Ciboure/St Jean de Luz, etc.
