El Pais has a video outlining Madrid's plan for the area from the National Museum to Atchoa. It may be of interest to Madridophiles.

It's an ambitious one that will make the whole area more pedestrian-friendly. It is a few years off but something to look forward to once completed.

Thanks Dennis - As an urban planner I am always interested to see what's proposed in other cities that I have visited.
Cheers,
Christine

The project was enormously polemic in its first version and Baronesa Tyssen (the Tyssen museum faces Paseo del Prado) chained herself to the trees in Paseo del Prado to protest against the project. Now the video underlines that the new project will not involve cutting the trees!
Anyway, like most of the later Madrid urban plans, there's always some bits of information missing... the latest plan ("Calle 30" a huge project for making tunnels under/at the side of the river to "hide" the big ringroad that went along it) lacked the "environmental impact study" so that the EU did not finance it...
Let's hope for the best this time!
