Hello everyone. I am going to be in Spain in early May 2010 - haven't booked the ticket yet. I want to spend about a week traveling from Barcelona - West to San Sebastian and then back again. Wondered if this could be done via train or if a car is a must? Also wondered if any one has good suggestions of the best route for this trip.

Thanks for all your help.

If you haven't a reason you have to go back again, such as air tickets both in and out of BCN you could consider only going one way and flying out of San Sebastian or Bilbao. You can take the train to SS but having a car would allow much more poking around in the small towns of the Basque country.
