Dennis sent in highlights of his travels to Spain's Costa Brava in March of this year, enjoy:

More Brava than Costa: A stay in the Alt Empordà

I'll tell you, never heard of this area and then get to read two great reports within two weeks times describing stays there, wonderful.

Dennis, thanks for the submission! By the way, do you have any corresponding pictures out there we can view?

Thanks for the great report. Lucky you to have stumbled upon that festival!

Was the wine from the co-op good? Like, good or REALLY good? Either way I hope to get over there to check it out in October. Thumbs Up

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for a report that is taking me down nostalgia lane here..ha..calcot.... we fell in love with it the first night when it was in our salad...in fact we did not know what it was and assumed it was some form of leeks and asked the girl who was serving us in the bar...and she wrote down calcot for us on a paper...

I envy your long stay in this area...we'll just have to go back again to do all the things we did not do this time. We had planned to visit Castellfollit de la Roca on our way to Olot but it was pouring rain we could not even see the exit, so we put that down as 'for next time'

Happy travels

Hello Shannon:

The Co-Op's wine was good but when one takes in to consideration in was .90Eu/litre it was REALLY good value. In the evening and after dinner Margaret particularly enjoyed a glass - or two! - of Granaxa, a sweet dessert-style wine which tastes like a blend of PX and Malaga grapes. Fortified wines (sherry- and port-like styles were 2Eu a litre) We both enjoyed the young white wines and roses well chilled. They produce a good bubbly in the region too.

For reds I think it's better to head to a winery that has a D.O. designation. Many have shops and you can try before you buy. For 5 to 7Eu you can get a REALLY good red. Carinena and grenache grapes are most widely grown here. Of course one can purchase the whole range of Spanish wines in supermarkets.

Letha:
Even with eight days, we felt we could have enjoyed more time there. We didn't get to the Nature reserve for bird watching and would have liked to visit Dali's museum again. As you mention - next time!
