Hi I just put a post in the rest of the world but I thought I would add it here since it is about spain! Just wondering if anyone has parked a car at the port in Tarifa? We are taking the ferry over to Tangeirs and we are wondering if it is safe to park it there?

How long are you going to leave it? If you are worried, you could pay for a guarded lot. But it seems like a lot of people probably do this and as long as nothing is visible in the car...
We plan on leaving the car there for about 10-12 days so we are planning on paying for secured parking! We don't want to come back to an empty spot, or broken windows. Thanks for the answers. Mike
Well we made it back from Morocco safely, however I have to report that we sailed from Algeciras instead. We decided on this because there were more options from there than Tarifa. Which was a good thing since the sea's were rough and the highspeed ferries were cancelled that day. For parking it would have cost us 15 euro a day if we parked in Tarifa, so by staying where we were parking was only 7 euro a day. However if you want to avoid that cost you could park on the street.

It is always nice to have a report back on someone's experiences. Thank you.
Thank you for posting your question regarding parking at the port. We are going in May and want to take a ferry over to Morocco for the day. Also, wondering about parking. Our first thought was to stay in Tarifa but with the previous post, I'm wondering where you stayed with the cost of parking 7 euros? Was it in Algeciras?
Yes it was at Algeciras and not at Tarifia. At the port it would cost you 15euro to park, however... you can park in the street next to the port and take your chances. Too bad you are going only for a day, they need tourist there to help their economy as well you won't be seeing the real Morocco. Mike
I went to Morocco for a long weekend last February and we left the car in the Tarifa port parking lot (not the one where the ferry leaves from - Michael In Spain, is that the place you were referring to?). The car was fine and it didn't cost anything.
In fact, our trip was extended by a day due to high winds, and we finally ended up having to take the BIG FERRY back to Algeciras, then get a taxi to Tarifa to pick up the car. There is usually a bus service between the ports but because the Tarifa ferries were cancelled, so was the bus service. DUH.
The ferry Tarifa-Tangier takes about 40 minutes and is usually quite pleasant. The ferry Algeciras-Tangier takes 3 hours. And when the fast ferries are cancelled, even the big boat is a very rough ride. When I did it last year I threw up the entire 3 hours, as did almost everyone on the boat, and I ended up with one of those bugs from all the air-borne crap on the ferry and was sick for days afterwards. I will never get on that big ferry again.
Cycle Michael, how did you like Morocco? I take it you went to Tangier?
I too have always parked in the port for free in Tarifa (it is directly in front of the terminal where the catamaran leaves from - so I am intrigued by the 15 Euros a day charge mentioned by Cycle Michael. Are they now charging? I am definitely with you Azahar on the "Big Ferry" . Give me the catamaran any time!! 40 minutes of throwing up is a trial - 3 hours is complete purgatory!!
In fact we were told by the attendant at the Ferry parking lot to park over in the Port parking lot just up the road. There was plenty of space and it seemed like it was guarded - in any case we had to pass through a huge gate. This was last February, so things may have changed by now.
No, I will never get on that BIG FERRY again. People were actually lying on the floor throwing up into plastic bags (or just on the floor). At one point I seriously thought I was going to die and wasn't sure that it wouldn't be a such bad thing.
Aching to go back to Morocco though. Heard of a good deal - 60 euros Tarifa-Tangier, including ferry and two nights in a hotel with breakfast. VERY tempting.
