OK, we have decided that we will spend two nights there in March, but I can not make up my mind on which place.

I started out thinking camper and bungalow, moved up to hostal and now I am looking at some pretty special places that are well over my budget.

It is a special visit ( 3 generations & the eldest's 80th birthday) so I would like something nice, but I do not want to go crazy because we already have 2 places in Spain sitting empty nearby while we visit.

We are 5 adults and one child, so probably need two triples. We like the idea of staying in the Barrio Santa Cruz near to what we will tour and the train station.

I love the looks of some of the rooms at Las Casas de la Juderia, but Hosteria del Laurel is probably a better choice for budget.

I don't think they tend to do Apartments for less than 3 days, but I am open to that possibility if they do. There is even a Mozart b&b that seemed fun for us.

Any wonderful ideas in this area? There are endless choices and I really like BTDT advice for things.

as always my homegrown opinion, barrio santa cruz is superb no doubt about it;casa de la juderia and hosteria del Laurel not stayed in neither but seen it and heard about them from locals they are nice.
do not know appt for less than 3 days but check out those in sevilla5.com great site by local expats living there.

My favorite as told you in the the other thread on flamenco is barrio Triana. I will try to tranlate this for this thread

when i pass the bridge, of Triana with me my life with only to look at you Triana, i die of happiness, because you have in your eyes ,Triana :the same as two stars and a class to give,Triana:worth the entire world!
if for another you will leave me ,Triana of sorrows i will die; my love, I love you and always will; you are my North and my guide, Triana and Triana and Olé!!!!

as Spanish we always bring the feminine to speak of anything but this is the essence of this barrio;pure sevillano!you do cross a small bridge to come into the section barrio of Triana, my favorite city of the south!!!

see the ceramic and pottery world known :look for the mark hecho en Triana. the bridge of Triana above in the sevillana (variation flamenco version music of sevilla) is know as puente de Isabel II but locals still know it as puente de triana.here is the palacio de san telmo, la torre de oro(tower of gold),theater maestranza and the bullgifht ring same name,as well as church of charity from 1674.

as to stay i have done it here
Monte Triana, clara de jesus montero 24 tel +34 954 341 832 build in 1990 has all modern conveniences right in the old barrio!10 minutes walking from the historical center.near the street is the cava de los civiles (for you to find out amongst its ancient little streets and flamenco tapas!) and the isla de Cartuja (island -for the expo92 was done)

have a blast and report back ok!

Thanks again Pedmar! I love that poem and translation...perfect to understand sevillano!!

Yes, I have heard raves about Triana ( Penelope Casas book) but had not heard about that hotel. So that is another great one to add to my choices.

The main advantage of staying in the Santa Cruz area is less walking. I have told them to start walking to get into shape for Europe, but I do not know yet if they have done any. These are Americans after all and I am concerned about the 80 year old and walking.

( Now my mom would be a whole other story as she is almost 80 and an American and can out walk most 20 year olds). But this group makes me nervous about ANY walking as they are use to jumping in cars.

But I am thrilled to have another choice to add to my top choices and will have to weigh all factors.

We will definitely make sure we experience Triana whether we end up staying there or not!

I am getting excited planning our excursions!!

I am not sure what is your budget, but my favourite place to stay in Sevilla, and I wouldn't stay anywhere else, is Hotel Dona Maria (Don Remondo 19, 954 224 990), in the Cathedral Piazza. It is located right in front of the Cathedral though sufficiently pulled back from the traffic to offer refuge from noise and crowds. Our room was wonderful, large, full of light, furnished with antique furniture. The hotel is like a museum of times past but all facilities are modern. Prices should be around 150-160 Euro/night in season.

Hi Doru,
Thanks , it does look nice and I read your review ,so it is on our top list of possibilities. It is slightly on the high end for price, but right now I must just find something as I need 3 rooms and it is already high season in the first week of March. Yikes.

I suppose much will depend on what is available at this point.

There are some mixed opinions on casa de la juderia - a couple of experienced ST'ers liked it quite a bit. I stayed there way before my involvement with ST (therefore I did not do a review) and did not have a great experience there, but some of it could have had to do renovation work which was going on and involved our room. One thing though, I thought it was very well located - quiet and secluded, but in striking distance of the center of Sevilla.

Thanks Diana!

( How I long to visit your beautiful B&B one day !)

Yes, I read the reviews on Casa de la Juderia here and else where and was concerned about the mixed reviews. It seems if you have a great room it is wonderful, but if you get a bad one for the same price it can not be so good. It is almost booked up now so I was afraid I would have no choice if we were not happy.

I was told by Jeff at Sevilla5 that Casa Armadeus was sold out for March, but had sent out inquiries to several of my top choices over the weekend and they were the most on the ball in answering. The hotel seemed to have room there, but somehow he did not.

It is in the same location as Casa Juderia and has a new addition and had fantastic reviews everywhere I looked.

So we ended up booking 3 double rooms there (with King beds they say) so I hope we are happy.I hate to make decisions so fast, but sometimes you must.

The location is great ( especially for an 80 year old to tour cathedral etc) and they have a great breakfast on the terrace with lovely views. The price is also very good and the rooms have lots of light.

To top it off my 6yo daughter goes by "Mozart" because she is very musical, so the musical theme ( along with genuine Sevilla home and decoration) was good for us as well as a free piano for her to practice while we are there!! Wink ( Since she will miss some while we tour with family).

So I hope we are happy and I can write a trip report about our experience down the line.

I booked the hotel, Jerez horse show and Alhambra all this morning as I wanted to make sure they were not booked up.

Thanks for everyones help here!

We walked past the Hotel Amadeus almost every single day for a couple of weeks and much to my regret did not go in even for a drink but it is in a fantastic location. Perfect for Santa Cruz. Will be interested to hear what you think of it.

Hi Eliza,

I stayed at Hotel Amadeus and it was fine. Definitely well located. We drove into Seville and shouldn't have. The Amadeus was really had to find and once there, we didn't use the car for the next three days. Taking the train is certainly advisable.

The train won't work for this trip, but we are planning on parking just outside the city and taking a taxi to the hotel and not using the car again until we head over to Jerez and the horse show.

We are all excited and have the two nights of Flamenco booked along with the horse show!
