Our idea is to pick up food at La Boqueria and take it someplace to picnic. Can someone suggest a picnic spot -- clean, safe, and pretty -- nearish to La Boqueria?

Thanks!

I guess you could walk down the Ramblas to the Barcelonetta beach. It's only 10 mins. Not sure if it qualifies as "clean, safe and pretty though".

The nearest spots would be Plaza Real or Plaza Catalunia, but they are city squares and are less suited for picnic as Barceloneta suggested by Scriv.
Also, behind the Boqueria there are smaller squares around the Drassenes and Raval areas. I find them utterly charming, and the neighborhood is so hip, but again I must point out the "city" aspect of Barcelona, - which I just love, - but which turns off some travellers not used to that kind of lifestyle setting.
One "clean, safe, and pretty" spot is Park Guell. It is a ways away but is not hard to get to by subway. The park is beautiful, wowey, with a great view.

Another great market-park picnic combo is to go to the relatively recently restored Santa Caterina market - every bit as good quality as Boqueria but less showy and less crowded - near the Palau de la Musica, then picnic at the Ciutadella park. That whole area is sumptuous.

We loved eating our lunch is Place Catalunya! The people watching was amazing. Park Guell was really nice too but.........the washrooms were at least
a 20 minute wait the day we were there!~

I had a picnic at the Parc Guell last summer--it was fantastic, but be sure to find a quiet spot away from the main tourist areas (the lovely mosaic benches--they're gorgeous, but it was really crowded.) There are plenty of beautiful spots on the shade as long as you veer off the normal path. Enjoy--I'm jealous!

Thank you all for these great ideas! I have a feeling there will be more than one picnic lunch in Barcelona.

ramblas in raval is a good spot but if you want to get away from it and have wonderful views across the city, montjuic would be an excellent place to go

Your best bet is plaza catalunya as it has a few grass verges as well as plenty of benches to sit on, that's the only greenery within walking distance I can think of - and I work just up the road Coffee
