It will be my 5th trip to Spain, plus 2 trips to Portugal. It takes that long to see it well. This trip will start in Segovia and end in Salamanca---2 of my favorite previous stops---but will concentrate in Asturias and Galicia with 3 nites at the Picos de Europa and 3 more in Santiago. We will also revisit the lovely Viana do Castelo in northern Portugal and stay at the Pousada there. Wish us well and pray for good weather---I know it must be called green Spain for a reason. Any last minute tips will be appreciated.
Bob, we'll be traveling with you in spirit. Throw kisses to our beloved Galicia for us.

Bob have you got your accommodation all booked up? If not then we could throw a few tips your way, but it will mean that you will have to sleep away from SdC. In your reply let us know what your interests and means of transport are.
BTW the weather here is just great with temps in Ourense reaching the high 20s or even 30 degs centigrade. But in Galicia the weather is changeable so bring something of everything.
Gracias, but we do have our lodging set. We will be 3 noches at Cangas de Onis at the Parador, and 3 in Santiago. The one noche between is at the Parador in Ribadeo. We plan to drive that north coast the next day. You can help with the weather---my biggest concern.
Can we help with the weather? Sorry that is out of our hands and with someone more powerful than us! The coast is usually wetter than the inland areas, especially at this time of the year. We monitor several web sites, one from the local newspaper, one which is the official Xunta de Galicia’s web site and the other the official Spanish government weather web site. All three give different predictions for the coming week. Oh yer the TV station also gives a forth option. We live life like a Gallego when it comes to weather, just take an umbrella and hope not to use it. Enjoy Galicia.
Have a great time, Bob! My mom and I had some delicious local cheeses and chorizo braised in cider at the parador in Cangas de Onis, in the courtyard bar - we spent a lovely couple of hours there.
Let us know how it all goes.. can't wait to hear about your trip.
hi galicia is sooo green, i love it there! when we were there a few years ago in april, we found that using rain ponchos better than umbrellas. if the wind is blowing the umbrellas dont help much. better to be prepared , then you probably wont need them !
Have a wonderful time Bob...which I know you will!
We will finally get to Green Spain soon too and we are really looking forward to it. We have spent tons of time in Spain the last 2 years and still have barely scratched the surface.
So many wonderful things to see....we are off to the Jerez horse fair this weekend which has been on our list for a while.
We leave for Southern Portugal in two weeks and will work our way up to Northern Spain all the way across to France, so we will be little behind you.
We meant to do this when we started in 2006, so it has been a long time coming.
If you like quiet places, a bus ride from Santiago de C to Noya y Muros, on a separate Ria, is very pleasant. If you don't know Pontevedra, it's worth a look and try to see the little village of Combarro on the north side of the Ria de P.
Living here in Galicia I can safely report Bobs weather this week has just been perfect. Temps in Galicia have been between 22 and 28, depending on location. It is hot and wonderful with no rain. Ian
