Hello:
We'll be visiting some familiar areas once again: Cabo de Gata, Cazorla and Extremadura.

However, we'll also be walking in areas new to us. Does anyone have suggestions or opinions regarding the relative merits of locating ourselves in La Alberca or Bejar for a week? We will be doing day hikes in March and will have a car. We are fit (for 60 something geezers!). We also recognize the possibility of snow and have appropriate gear.

It has been some time since we visited Avila, Salamanca, and Segovia. Suggestions of good budget places to eat for those places are also appreciated (maximum 12EU for a menu del dia).

As always, Thank you for your help.
Dennis

Thanks Shannon!

As is our custom, we head off the usual tourist track for some of our holidays. Right now we're leaning towards the area around La Aberca.

Hi Dennis,

It's years since I've been to La Alberca (I used to live in Salamanca) but it is a lovely, if tiny, place to visit. Nearby you have Ciudad Rodrigo and the Peña de Francia, which are also worth a visit.

I'm afraid I can't help you out with regards to lodging and eating. Other than recommending the old bodegas just outside Zamora - you go downstairs into these old-style restaurants with open wood-burning fireplaces, which is also where they cook all the meat. Very cheap and very good.

Sounds like it's going to be a fabulous trip.

In Galicia that meal is called a Churrasco? I would assume it is further south too.
