Yes! It's not a 'real' town: it's just a purpose-built tourist complex. The photos on this site give you an idea of what to expect. It's actually a few years now since we last holidayed in the Algarve, but I remember Lagos as being one of the most 'real' towns on the coast. But go inland to places like Silves and (especially) Monchique and you can leave the tourist hordes behind. Jonathan

I thought Villamoura was more like a concrete city. I did not like even visiting this area. We stayed in Tavira which has been called the second Venice of Europe. We stayed for three weeks and loved this area. I felt like we were living the authentic Algarvian life. It is very close to the Spanish border. Sandy
