We leave soon. The trip planning is as complete as it can be. We just got our final documents for our Renault Eurodrive lease today. That was the last loose end.
Our final plans...
Madrid for a few days, slow drive through central Spain for 4 days, a week in Galicia, a week in northern Portugal, slow drive south through the eastern side of Portugal for two days, a week in Lisbon, then home.
Thanks to all the wonderful Spain and Portugal experts on this board for helping us plan.
Your ideas and advice have made a big difference in what we will be experiencing.

Deborah - Have a wonderful trip. It sounds like a nice leisurely trip. I want to hear more about Northern Spain and Portugal, two areas that are always on my shortlist for the next trip.

Bom viagem!

Have a great trip. We are doing similar starting Sept 2 for 10 weeks. Leased a Peugeot 207 from Kemwel. What type of accomodations do you stay in - Reservations? or wing it? Our game plan is to stay in small towns and maybe do some of the rural accomodations that will allow us to do some of our own cooking. Hope to spend 10days to 2 weeks in Basque country.
Enjoy your trip.

Buen viaje, Deborah! Madrid is so cool that I am constantly thinking about it. My favorite part of Madrid to wander around is Barrio de las Letras (the Letter District), by the way.

Have a wonderful trip!! We are just now leaving Spain ( our latest 3 weeks in Barceolona) and it is a little sad after 6 months here.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy and do write about all your fantastic exploits when you return.

Thanks everyone, for the good wishes. I'm spending this morning putting together a contact list for our over-anxious daughter.
She can't believe we would actually leave the country for an entire month and be out of reach to her for perhaps a full day. She is quite the homebody and like a good sheep dog, likes to circle her herd into a tight clump so she can keep an eye on them.
The other daughter is just the opposite. Her feet are almost as itchy as mine.

Here we are. On our 6th day. Madrid was great, but we didn´t much enjoy the food.
We are now in Galicia in the town of Cambados. It is our last night before our 1 week rental in Outes.
The seafood is fabulous and Dan is now enjoying the eating part of the trip.

Deborah, I was wondering about you this morning! Bummer about the food in Madrid, glad the seafood is good though.

Enjoy!

Amazing that you did not enjoy the food in Madrid - if you are routed back through the city - head for the Chueca area with all its chic and trendy restaurants for some fabulous food!
Envy you being up North at the moment - mouthwatering dishes!!
