We are looking to travel to Barcelona in the month of December. Does anyone have an idea of the weather during this time? Also, I have short-listed the following hotels in Barcelona:
1. Apartments Decimononico
2. Rivoli Ramblas
3. Melia Barcelona
Any recommendations? Proximity to tourist activites would be of high priority.
Finally, would anyone be aware of the quickest and cheapest way to get from Barcelona to Valencia (and back)?

Thanks,
R

Weather is not as warm in Barcelona in December as it is down here in the South - that said you can get some wonderful sunny days even as high as 20 degrees celsius. The temperature will drop at night. You may get some rain, but not much.

Best Hotels in my opinion for tourist attractions are in Eixample district - Paseo de Gracia is a good street to base yourselves on or near - metro stations and tourist hop on/hop off buses are nearby.

Excellent and cheap train service from Barcelona to Valencia (about three hours) - train service in spain is cheap, reliable and clean.

You will love Spain!!

Welcome to ST

I guess like most ST, I usually stay in rentals. I don't know the Decimononico apartments.
But I have made many rental recommendations on other threads here, all in the old town. Have you looked at them?

I have had a drink at the Rivoli Ramblas now and then and quite liked the interior.
But while most of the old town is looking better all the time, the Ramblas part has not.

Weather: it is very mild in December, around 20°C. I have gone there several times over the xmas-newyear period. Needed only a light coat.

Bon voyage.

again as in previous posts and mentioned above the Exeimple area is in my opinion the best, and near Passeig de Graçia is great!!!

I usually stay in hotels for points so the ACCOR chain or the NH spanish chain are great.

you will have walking distance to everything in the exeimple area/

and yes the train service is excellent to Valencia. If you want to see slower pace and more intown try the bus.here is the website

You can look for a hotel in "Les Rambles", that it,s in the center of Barcelona, the hotels are cheap and you have most of tourists attractions near by walk or getting Plasa Catalunya tube station.

Don,t forget to visit:
Parc Guell
La Pedrera
La Sagrada Familia
Go out in Barri Gotic, Born, Les Ralmbles
MACBA
Camp Nou, if you like football
Chocolate Museum: it,s delicious, mmmm
Montjuic
And if you can, have a drink in a bar is called "El Mediterraneo". I think its in Balmes Street, near Diagonal Street. There is life music and singers are really good. I love this place.

Take with you a thick jacket and a pullover, gloves and a Umbrella, and sport shoes if you want to see everything!

Bye,

I think what area you want really depends on your demographic...age?type of group?

the weather in December should still be good and mostly sunny. You'll need a jacket in the evenings though but during the day you can wear a t-shirt. I haven't come across any of thee se properties you listed but would suggest staying in the Barri Gotico or Born which is the oldest part of the city. There's wonderfu architecture, great restaurants and you'll be close proximity to public transport and the sights of barcelona.
