Hello all. As great a site as slowtrav is, I haven't actually seen that many Barcelona hotels reviewed lately or seen many recommendations - more for apartments.

I'm going to be in Barcelona in late April or early May and would LOVE some recommendations on Barcelona hotels. I'm looking at 2 or 3 star that would be reasonably priced - between 100-150 Euros. I'm open to different neighborhoods and types of hotels.

Thank you for your recommendations.

My personal favorite is Hotel Gran Via.
The room I had was very spacious. The window gave out onto the center of the city block, (not the street and of course not the ventilation patio). You have to like old though, as it used to be a private town house. It still has many of the arcitectural details preserved.
It is well located for walking anywhere, down to the Barri gotic, and very near Paseo de Gracia with its modrmismo gems.

There was a good thread on Barcelona hotels a few months ago - here is the link.

I stayed at the Hotel Continental mentioned in that thread and it was pretty cool. We had a non view room (because of noise, which you would have a lot of with a view room) but there is a cool little balcony where you can sit and watch the activity on the Ramblas. They also have free food and drinks.

Yeah, Shannon, glad Continental worked out.

That was one of two hotels I had recommended.
The other was Banys Oriental.
When I recommended the latter, I had not actually stayed there but had passed by it many times and know the Born location to be excellent and that the hotel looked exquisitely decorated.

Last xmas my girlfriend who was sharing a rental with us in Born was staying an extra day after we left - on 31st December.
She just went across the Argenteria street and checked into the Banys Oriental and took a very inexpensive single room. I remember it was 70-some euro.
I helped her move in and therefore had a look of the room, bearing in mind that I should report back to ST...
The single is really too small! It was esp funny as I used the bathroom and "perched" on the toilet seat which was not even standard-size but was obviously especially made small in order to accommodate the space.
I happen to be a small person - 5'4" at 102 lb, so if I think the toilet seat is too small for me, IT IS TOO SMALL !
Well, it was all a good laugh and I did not fall off.
I would still recommend the lovely, hip, minimalist hotel but would recommend that fellow STs spend more and take a double room, which starts at around 90 euro.

That night which was New Year's Eve, my girlfriend dined by herself next door at the Senyor Parellada and a wonderful thing happened to her:
After dinner as she was walking out, the restaurant manager - or maybe it was Senyor himself, she was not sure, - invited her to come back before midnight and join in the restaurant's own champagne countdown - for free of course.
Isn't that a great gesture? Needless to say my girlfriend was thoroughly enchanted by the experience.
