At its heart, SlowTalk is a community of individuals. Whether teachers, nurses, retired bankers, or travel business owners, we are travelers first. In order to maintain SlowTalk’s focus on community, and on individuals sharing the love of travel, we are asking business owners to use something other than their business name as their member name. Your signature and link to your business can stay the same. The only change we ask is that your member name not be related to your business name.
For example, if you registered with the name “Hotel XYZ,” you can change your member name to the name of the individual who is posting, or to an appropriate pseudonym if you wish more privacy. Please review our
Our aim in this change is to continue to be a message board populated by individuals instead of impersonal entities. By posting detailed answers to people's questions, business owners will be showing their expertise in a way that will attract readers' attention and trust far more than a "billboard-blazing" member name.
We would like to have all our business members change their names to something less commercial-sounding. But for long-time members we are offering "grandfathering-in," -- the option to keep their original business-related profile names -- if they meet all 4 of the criteria listed here: Grandfather Clause.
For those businesses who do not meet the grandfathering criteria, please follow these instructions to create a new member (aka Display) name that falls within our rules: Updating your Profile. Once you have chosen a new name, you can share it with other members on this thread.
If you have not made this change by 01/01/10, the moderators will change it for you.
