I'm going to be driving from Barcelona to San Sebastian in early May this year.
Can anyone give me recommendations of towns I should visit or places I should stay in between Barcelona and San S? Looking to take two days or so to make this trip across the country.
I was planning on doing two overnights, however if there's not a ton to see or good places to stay I don't HAVE to. I could just do a straight shot all the way West. I know I want to stop in Huesca for a cup of coffee.
I am on the road and am trying to visualize the route in my mind (with no map) but I am thinking Girona and in the Rioja, Laguardia. There is an awful lot to do in both places though - you might want to concentrate on the Rioja.
Last year we drove from Barcelona to Laguardia in a day. It was a long drive - about 6 hours with a stop for lunch - but it wasn't too boring. We traveled along AP68. We had 3 nights there before driving over to France via Pyrenees mountains. Two nights there would give you time to look around the town and drive to some of the wineries with the interesting modern architecture. Driving to Huesca would only take about 3 1/2 hours depending on the road.

Hi Jesse, I am back now and looking at my map. Girona is really not on the way. If you got on the A2 towards Lleida, you could check out the medieval town of Montblanc and the countryside around Poblet. It is incredibly beautiful out there. Then maybe stop in Huesca for the night as Fletch recommends.
The next day go up into the Rioja and check out some of the villages and vineyards then spend the night in Laguardia. From there it is probably only a couple of hours to San Sebastian. You would be on the road a lot but you'd see some great scenery on the way.
