After reading several chapters in my big new book "Vino Italiano", I sought out a lovely white white and enjoyed it immensely, but can't quite get the hang of how to say it:
Roero Arneis

Aiuto, per favore.....

That's a good one! The "oe" and "ei" combinations are quite rare in Italian but very common in German. However, the wine is not from the semi-German-speaking Alto Adige but from Piemonte...

I'll be watching with interest to see what our posters in Italy will say.

grazie Paolo....so phonetically, it's

roAYro arNAYis ?

am I close? I've never heard it spoken...

On a similar but different note, I'm just back from dinner at Dolce Ristorante in Charlotte, NC, where this month the specials (in food and wine) highlight the Abruzzo region. Had some delicious cannelloni with a delicate filling of ground sausage, butternut squash and pecorino in a silky lemongrass sauce. Also a tasty Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, which I may submit as this week's favorite thing to say in Italian.

I would say yes once we are sure that in AY there isn't any italian "I" sound

Try this site
http://vhost.oddcast.com/vhost_minisite/demos/tts/tts_example.html

select the italian voice
and then type
roeero [see the two ee]
and
arneeis [again two ee to enforce an oooopeeen e].

more or less there you are

Abruzzo has great sausages and use pumpkins and squashes in many dishes and, of course fabulous pecorino. Lemongrass Confused would be totally foreign to its cuisine. Sounds like a fusion of some type - Thai/Italian??? But it sounds delicious nonetheless.
And ahh my favorite wine ... Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Thumbs Up

avvocato,

I thought lemongrass was odd too, but it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant's owners are from Milano and Roma, and the chef is from Naples. Maybe he just got adventurous and slipped in lemongrass instead of lemon juice for the sauce, since Dolce is not at all a "fusion" kind of place.

And what IS it with the Abruzzese sausage? It had such a delicate flavor......
