I'm learning Itaian w/ Rosetta Stone, and this is in the verbi:indicativo presente section

Coricare means SDRAIARSI or STENDERSI, basically LAY DOWN.

Alessandra - is there another word you would use for - to put to bed?

My dictionary says:
1> (persona: a letto) to put to bed; (a terra, su divano) to put down, lay down; (bottliglia) to rest, lay.
2> coricarsi (andare a letto) to go to bed; (riposarsi) to lie down.

Granted this is first an English dictionary with Italian translations. I am thinking perhaps I might be further ahead to buy an Italian dictionary with English translations to better understand the nuances of the language.

I have a small correction to make to Alessandra's translation of sdraiarsi and stendersi -- it means to LIE DOWN or stretch out, not LAY DOWN. LAY is a transitive verb in English, as in "lay down the law, lay the picture on its side." It is often misused for "LIE Down," the definition we are talking about here, which is an intransitive verb, the action of going into a horizontal position voluntarily to take a rest, for example. You can "lay yourself down," a marginally acceptable way, grammatically, to use "lay" to mean the same as "lie." "Lay" has been used incorrectly for so long that it will probably eventuallly become accepted, but for now, we die-hards will insist on the difference
