I always thought the accent was on the second syllable:
de zee' deri
But I've heard this pronunciation on some programs on RAI:
dezi derry
In particular on a show I watched last night called: Il Treno dei Desideri

the pronunciations are both correct..... but:
desidéri is a noun: the wishes
while
desíderi is a verb: io desidero, tu desideri... you wish

Even (or especially) the commercials! There's a particularly sexy furniture commercial I keep seeing on RAI.

And there's an awful lot of cleavage on just about every program.
