The following is a letter I want to send to the Diocese of Naples. I'm trying to find the records of my great grandparents church wedding (I have the civil records). Am I getting the message across? What should be changed?

Il mio nome è Ellen Singer. Sto facendo delle ricerche sulla mia storia famigliare e le sarei molto grato se potesse aiutarmi a trovare dei documenti in relazione al matrimonio dei miei bisnonni.
Ho l’atto ufficiale di matrimonio dalla corte comunale di Secondigliano che dice che hanno sposato I miei bisnonni a luglio, milleottocentonovantuno (1891). La data esatta non ne sono sicura. L’atto ufficiale indica che il matrimonio religioso è successo il ventitre o il ventotto dello stesso mese, ma non dice il nome della chiesa dove il matrimonio è accaduto.
Il mio bisnonno si chiamata Gaetano Della Torre, da Secondigliano. La mia bisnonna si chiamata Filomena Vario da Maddaloni.
Le sarei veramente grato se potesse indicarmi a chi posso scrivere per avere queste informazioni. Veramente, vorrei ricevere una copia del certificato del matrimonio.

This is a little off topic concerning the message but I would like to know from native speakers if it is better to say:

Investigo o Indago la mia storia...
Why use Sto facendo?? I know the use of the gerund emphasizes the point in time at which the action occurs but it doesn't seem to fit here, since the research is ongoing and could have started a long time ago. Grazie in anticipo!

Exactly the reason for the gerundio fits here very well.
Faccio delle ricerche wouldn't be wrong, but it would be weaker, and would be ineffective in conveying the idea of an extended effort, of a work in progress.

Thanks for your help Giulia and Alessandra. I sent the letter by e-mail and fax but got no response. On a whim, I went to the diocese's offices in Naples when I was there last week. It was a Friday and they were closed to the public, but the doorman must have felt sorry for me as I tried to explain why I was there and that I was only in town for that one day. He called the archives office and asked them to see me, and they did! No one spoke English, so having the correct phrases from the letter was an enormous help. The woman I met with was able to understand exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, she needed some additional information from me, and I couldn't understand what she was asking. Finally, she called a friend who speaks English, and by passing the phone back and forth we got the information she needed. For some reason she wanted to know if my relatives were famous or if they were royalty. I have no idea what led her to ask that ... except perhaps our name (Della Torre)?
At any rate, they are going to mail me the documents about my great grandparents' church marriage. With that information, I can push on to establishing, once and for all, where my grandfather was born. We have some information that indicates he was born in Naples, yet we also have a birth certificate that says he was born in Hudson County, New Jersey. However, Hudson County in those days (and to some extent, today) was not known for particularly honest or accurate record keeping, and the document could have been obtained less than legally.
So the saga goes on. Again, thanks for your help.
